The Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico offers an aromatic profile defined by crushed violets, wild strawberries, and a distinct touch of cracked black pepper. On the palate, the wine reveals a lean, athletic structure characterized by bright tartness and firm, chalky tannins that provide a savory grip. Flavors of red currant and sour cherry mingle with subtle notes of tobacco leaf and forest floor, leading into a clean, mineral-driven finish that emphasizes freshness over weight.
The estate’s history is rooted in the eleventh century, beginning as a Vallumbrosan monastery known as the "Abbey of the Good Harvest." For centuries, the monks cultivated the surrounding lands, establishing a viticultural tradition that persisted until the Napoleonic era when the property was secularized. In 1846, the Giuntini family acquired the estate, and under the modern leadership of the Stucchi Prinetti family, it has become a pioneer in the region. They were among the first to embrace organic farming on a large scale and continue to focus on indigenous grape varieties, maintaining a style that honors the historical identity of Gaiole in Chianti.
