This Rioja opens with a vibrant ruby hue and an expressive bouquet of wild blackberries, red currants, and plums layered over sophisticated notes of vanilla, roasted coffee, and toasted oak. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and remarkably balanced, delivering a supple texture with fine-grained tannins that provide structure without being abrasive. The bright fruit core is complemented by savory nuances of leather and tobacco, leading into a long, fresh finish that highlights the characteristic elegance of the vintage.
Founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga and Aurora Caño, Bodegas Muga is a cornerstone of the Haro Station District in the Rioja Alta subregion. This family-owned winery is celebrated for its commitment to traditional methods, most notably being one of the few Spanish estates to maintain its own cooperage to craft all its barrels from French and American oak. By utilizing gravity-led winemaking and egg-white fining, the estate continues to honor historical techniques while producing wines that consistently define the benchmark for high-quality Rioja.
