The Château Guiraud Sauternes presents a rich and complex aromatic profile of apricots, honeysuckle, lemons, mango, and orange confit. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with an unctuous, silky texture and a racy, vibrant backbone of acidity that balances the sweet marmalade, pear, and fig flavors. The finish is long and refreshing, making it enjoyable in its youth but also suitable for extended aging.
Originally known as "La Maison Noble du Bayle," the estate was acquired by Bordeaux merchant Pierre Guiraud in 1766, thus gaining its current name. In the 1855 Official Classification of Bordeaux wines commissioned by Napoleon III, the property was recognized for its exceptional quality and achieved the rank of Premier Cru Classé. The estate has seen various owners over the centuries, with a significant transition in 2006 when it was purchased by a partnership including Robert Peugeot and winemakers Olivier Bernard, Stephan Von Neipperg, and Xavier Planty. This new ownership group led the charge for sustainable practices, with Château Guiraud becoming the first 1855 Classified First Growth to be certified organic in 2011. The ownership structure has since evolved, with Matthieu Gufflet becoming the majority owner in 2021, and Sandrine Garbay, formerly of Château d'Yquem, taking over as the estate's director in 2022.
