The Mommessin Les Grandes Mises Saint-Amour displays an elegant ruby red color with vibrant violet reflections. The nose offers delicate and complex aromas of black fruits, such as cherry and blackcurrant, with additional floral notes of iris and peony. On the palate, the wine is fresh and lively, with an ample and well-structured body, silky tannins, and spicy undertones that lead to a fine, long finish.
Founded in 1865 by Jean-Marie Mommessin at the Grange Saint-Pierre, an ancient outbuilding of the Cluny Abbey in Southern Burgundy, the house adopted the Abbey's emblem, the Key of Saint Peter, as its symbol. The estate gained significant prominence with the acquisition of the renowned Clos de Tart Grand Cru in 1932, a historic vineyard that remained a Mommessin family jewel until its sale in 2017. The core négociant business and the Mommessin brand were acquired by the Boisset Family Estates in 1997, which subsequently transferred the headquarters to Quincié-en-Beaujolais, blending the traditional Burgundian pursuit of excellence with the vibrant fruit-forward style of Beaujolais wines.
