The Neal Family Vineyards Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is characterized by a deep crimson color and complex aromatics featuring red currant, toffee, lavender, and orange zest. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, showcasing a dense structure of mountain tannins that support flavors of blackberry, black cherry, and cocoa. Savory notes of dried herbs and crushed rock minerality provide depth, leading to a long, evolving finish with vibrant freshness that indicates significant aging potential.
The estate was founded in 1998 by Mark Neal, a third-generation Napa Valley farmer who began working in his family's Rutherford vineyards in 1966. This winery realized a shared dream between Mark and his father, Jack Neal, who co-founded Jack Neal & Son Vineyard Management in 1968. Mark purchased the Howell Mountain property in 1990 and constructed the winery and caves at an elevation of 1,800 feet. A pioneer in sustainable viticulture, the estate became the first in Napa Valley to achieve Regenerative Organic Certification, maintaining a commitment to 100% organic and biodynamic farming.
