The Montesecondo Chianti Classico delivers an energetic profile characterized by its translucent ruby hue and a bouquet of sour cherries, violets, and sun-baked earth. On the palate, the wine reveals a crunchy texture where flavors of pomegranate and blood orange intersect with savory herbal undertones. The tannins are firm and rustic, providing a structured backbone that balances the wine's natural brightness and mineral tension. This vintage avoids the weight of modern oak, instead emphasizing a lean, high-toned finish that reflects the purity of the fruit and a traditional Tuscan spirit.
The estate’s history began in the 1970s when the Tiezzi family purchased land in San Casciano Val di Pesa, originally focusing on selling grapes to larger cooperatives. A pivotal shift occurred in 1999 when Silvio Messana returned to the family farm to bottle his own wines, eventually transitioning the vineyards to organic and then biodynamic viticulture by the mid-2000s. Messana became a key figure in the natural wine movement within Chianti Classico, moving away from international styles in favor of concrete fermentation and clay amphorae. Today, the estate is recognized for its commitment to low-intervention winemaking, producing wines that prioritize regional authenticity and the specific limestone-rich terroir of the northern Chianti zone.
